Hello, my name is Kirstyn and I am a cheesaholic. My love for all things
cheesy has really gotten out of control...and I blame the "Mac and
Cheese Cookbook". Although it appears to be on the small side, don't be
deceived. The Mac & Cheese cookbook is full of recipes that I would
have never thought of in my wildest dreams...and I would have been stuck
with my blue box blues had I not picked it up. Seriously, who would
think of making breakfast macaroni and cheese?! The brilliant minds at
Homeroom, one of America's favorite mac & cheese restaurants. Yes,
there are restaurants whose menus boast copious unique recipes. From the
Crab Mac to the Mexican Mac and all of the macs in between, do yourself
a favor and indulge in one of the yummiest cookbooks I have seen (and
tasted) in years!

— Kirstyn

I've tried making macaroni and cheese-it never worked.  This book got me to a macaroni and cheese that I could be proud of and take as a great dish to pass.
Shepherd's Mac:
This recipe was pure genius.  Instead of mashed potatoes, top your shepherd's pie with creamy macaroni and cheese.  It was so good.  The authors walk you through making the béchamel sauce (it's not that scary) which serves as the base for the cheese sauce.  You will make more than you need for any of the recipes and with the sauce down, a whole vista of cooking magic opens up.  The left over sauce will easily keep in the refrigerator for a few days.  I've used the extra as a base for creamy chicken and wild rice soup or roasted Brussels sprouts and onions in cream sauce.  ...And more mac and cheese, of course!

About the Author

ALLISON AREVALO was born into a food-loving Italian family in New York, where she helped her great-grandmother cook Sunday family dinners and learned the basics of cooking. Allison pursued a career in marketing before deciding to follow her true passion in life: food. In 2008, Allison and her husband quit their jobs and moved to Oakland, CA, in hopes of opening a restaurant. Their dream came true in 2010, the year she and Erin opened the doors to Homeroom.

ERIN WADE is a chef-turned-attorney-turned-chef-again. Erin’s love for cooking was sparked by her father’s homemade mac and cheese and her mother’s vast cookbook collection. Erin worked as a line cook and in pastry at restaurants in New York before attending law school at Berkeley. After practicing law for a year, Erin came to her senses and decided to return to her love of cooking by opening Homeroom with Allison. She lives in Oakland with her husband, Uri, and her daughter, Ellie—her favorite cooking partners.

Praise For…

‘‘Anyone who paves the way for me to have mac + cheese for breakfast understands my heart’s desires. Allison and Erin really know their way around a creamy sauce and amazing cheese combinations. These recipes are fun and majorly comforting—I’m so excited to add this book to my cookbook family.’’ -Joy Wilson, author of Joy the Baker Cookbook
‘‘I remember when Allison and Erin first came to me to ask for advice on opening their own restaurant. I knew they had what it takes: intelligence, natural grace, and sincere hospitality. The beauty of their food is the unexpected mac and cheese flavors that pop every time. They provide you with plenty of comfort at Homeroom, and now, their cookbook provides you with the ultimate comfort food!’’ -Tanya Holland, chef/owner, Brown Sugar Kitchen
