Staff Reviews

If you loved The Hunger Games, this book is for you.
In Starters, we follow Callie, an orphan caring for her younger brother.
Callie and her brother are “unclaimed minors” meaning that their
parents, grandparents and any other ancestors are dead. The book takes
place after the Spore Wars killed anyone between the ages 20 and 60.
The adults who have been left behind are aging and can live forever and
are looking for ways to reclaim their youth... and the unclaimed youth
are looking for ways to make a living and survive. One way is to become
a rental unit for a renter through the company Prime Destinations.
Callie's only option to provide for her brother is to become a renter,
but once she begins the process she discovers that there is much more to
the story than the public believes and it will be up to her to stop
Prime Destinations and their evil plot.

— Bess

Callie lost her parents when the Spore Warswiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, are on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie. Callie's only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man. He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie's head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, and going out with a senator's son.
It feels almost like a fairy tale, until Callie discovers that her renter intends to do more than party and that Prime Destinations plans are more evil than Callie could ever have imagined. . . .
