News-Review School Program

Make a difference in a child's life with books!

Instill a love of reading and help local second-graders get a leg-up on reading.

The Petoskey News-Review has partnered with McLean & Eakin Booksellers to supply second grade students with engaging and age-appropriate books to add to their home libraries. A 2010 study showed that a home library has "a very substantial effect on educational attainment," which has become even more important with the passing of Michigan's Third Grade Reading Law.

Each month a different area school will be featured and a book wishlist will be created with the help of classroom teachers and McLean & Eakin's children's specialist. Individuals are invited to participate in the project by purchasing a wishlist title. All titles purchased and donated through the program will be provided to the month's featured classroom and students. Read more about the project HERE.

Books ordered via the McLean & Eakin website and in-store will be held at the store and delivered to schools by News-Review staff.
