Our Summer Staff . . .
  • is comprised of at least one person born in every decade from the 30s to the 90s.
  • has visited 37 of the 50 states in the past year.
  • drinks a total of about 28 cups of coffee a day.
  • has had 45 haircuts in 2008.
  • has received 15 parking tickets so far this year.
  • bikes, runs or walks a total of about 132 miles per week.

And on a less personal note, we've . . .

  • sold 535 books between our two in-store bookclubs from January thru May of 2008.
  • donated about 875 books ($7,871.13) to area schools, libraries and non-profits in April of this year.
The Buck Really Does Stop Here!

Here's a little something to consider as the summer season really takes off (brought to you courtsey of The Andersonville Study and the Civic Economics Group):

For every $100 you spend, local businesses give $68 back to the local economy.  Chain stores give back only $43.

See how many of these questions you can answer correctly:

1.  How many in-store author appearances did Amazon stage in town last year?

2.  How many people from the area did Amazon employ last year?

3. How much did Amazon donate to our local community organizations last year?

4.  How much did Amazon collect in sales tax and pay to support schools, social services and public agencies last year?

(If you answered 0 to each of the questions above, you're right!)
