Reading a great book and then not being able to discuss it is like winning the lottery and telling no one. Hence, the creation of the book group. Designed for individuals passionate about great literature and interested in pushing their usual literary boundaries (for some, non-fiction = dentist office visit), the McLean & Eakin book groups are not intimidating; no one will ask for your highest level of education completed. There is no pop quiz. Selected works are diverse but not obscure. You may read a new release one month and a classic the next. But do come fully expecting to be surrounded by very avid readers.
Cottage Book Club
The Cottage Book Club of “mostly mature” adult (when we have to be)women (although not necessarily required), welcomes everyone, whether or not they have read the book. We’re friendly, of all ages, love to laugh and sometimes cry. We talk strictly about the book, and afterwards, a little about the author. Karen Langs is the facilitator and begins discussion with a general question. “One comment at a time, please.”
The group meets the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 10:00 a.m. for an hour, more or less. The Cottage Book Club meets year round and is open to anyone who wishes to join for a day or a season.
Evening Book ClubThe Evening Book Group, now in its 7th year, meets the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
Our discussions are friendly, informal, and informative. The group’s numbers change with the season, usually from four to twelve. Led by Dean Graham, the goal of the group is to “explore books we’d not necessarily seek out on our own.” This adventurous group welcomes anyone who has read the book. Please jump right in and join us!
Kids' Book ClubThe Kids' Book Club has concluded its 2007/2008 season with a bang! We've loved having you young and voracious readers in the store those many Tuesday nights. Don't forget to stop in over the summer and let us know which books you're loving and not-so-loving. Or, just stop in to say hi -- we simply can't wait until September to get started again!
