McLean & Eakin Events
Thank you for your interest in an event with McLean & Eakin Booksellers. We get numerous requests from authors for events and it is impossible to say yes to each request. Here are some things to consider when requesting an event with McLean & Eakin Booksellers:
- If you are with a major publisher such as Random House, Penguin, Hachette, Macmillan or similar, we encourage to coordinate your event through your publicist so we can receive co-op dollars to advertise your event.
- We recommend notifying them that you will be visiting the Petoskey area and indicating that you would like to reach out to McLean & Eakin for an event and want to ensure your publisher will support the event.
- At this point, please reach out to our Event Coordinator, Chelsea Mills, via email or better yet, have your publicist do so. She will happily coordinate your event and ensure that things go off without a hitch.
- Before requesting an event, we have some specific requests of you if you are a self-published author or have published with a smaller press:
- We no longer have a consignment program in the store. Your books must available through Ingram, Baker & Taylor or Partners Book Distributors with a regular discount and returnable terms.
- Larger publishers offer co-op advertising dollars to us in the amount of $200/event that we use to:
- Place an advertisement in our local newspaper, promote your event on our Facebook and Twitter feeds, create an in-store display, and promote in our weekly email.
- If co-op dollars are not available through your publisher, or you are self-published, we request that you present us with a non-refundable check in the amount of $200 to cover promotion costs. This check must be received in order for your event to be confirmed with our event coordinator. This does not guarantee sales at your event, but does guarantee that your event receives the same promotion as it would were you with a larger publisher. If you would like to discuss this element of our events or need clarification on the above, please feel free to reach out to us.
Regardless of who your publisher is, we find that the most successful events are those where the author heavily promotes to their fan base through Facebook and Twitter. Please like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter so we can return the favor and tag you in any posts or tweets we send. We also recommend that you join the event we will create on our Facebook page and share it with your friends and followers.
We appreciate your patience and hope that with a little hard work on both sides, we can host a mutually-beneficial event with which both parties will be pleased.
Kind Regards,
Matt & Jessilynn Norcross, Owners
