Kristina Riggle speaking and signing 9/3

Mclean and Eakin Author Events!

Come join us on Friday, September 3, from 1 to 3 pm for a signing with author Kristina Riggle!

Ms. Riggle hails from West Michigan, and the sights and sounds of the towns that dot Lake Michigan's shore have found their way into her novels.

Set in a town called Haven, inspired by Michigan's own Grand Haven, Riggle's The Life You've Imagined has been called an "entertaining, challenging story with the power to change us if we let it," by the Grand Rapids Press.

Tiffany Baker, bestselling author of The Little Giants of Aberdeen County, writes, "Her characters are both familiar and quirky, and reading their stories is like spending a weekend catching up with your oldest friends. You come away laughing and also touched that someone knows you so well."

Don Lystra speaking and signing 9/10

On Friday, September 10th, we have author and native Michigander Don Lystra in the store for a signing.  Mr. Lystra is the recipient of fellowships for creative writing, including the National Endowment for the Arts and the MacDowell Colon, as well as one recognized as a special mention in the Pushcart Prizes in 2002.

We look foward to having Mr. Lystra in the store soon.  Put it on your calendars!

Most recently, Mr. Lystra's book, Season of Water and Ice, was recognized as a Michigan Notable Book by the Library of Michigan.

It has been called, "a love story of a most unusual kind . . . There is a kind of innocence . . . that has not been so effectively portrayed since Salinger invented Holden Caulfield.  Lystra's style is spare and direct and yet profoundly evocative . . . An absolutely stunning debut," by the Big Rapids Pioneer

Two new books with local ties

Harbor Springs, Petoskey & Bay View is a pictoral celebration of the communities surrounding our wonderful Little Traverse Bay.  Mike Barton has managed to capture the some of the most beautiful images of the region in all seasons.  This book makes a perfect memento for those visiting the area, and is a must have for those who call Northern Michgan home.
Picturing Hemingway's Michigan has been a long time in the making and is sure to be one of McLean and Eakin's biggest hits of the summer.  It is a compilation of personal photographs, historical images, and written excerpts illuminating Ernest Hemingway's significant ties to Northern Michigan.

M&E Salutes Ann Patchett

Well, the cat's out of the bag.  As you may have heard, or read, Ann likes the store.

Guess what?  We really like what Ann does too.  Try any of the above titles to see why!

Capitalism: a Love Story!
