  Calling All Ballerinas!
1205937064BelindaBegins.JPG

Saturday, May 17th from 1:00-3:00pm

To all you ballerinas, donners of tutus and pointe shoes, patrons of dance, and women with large, floppy feet...

Amy Young, the delightful creator of everyone's favorite ballerina, will be signing copies of and reading from her latest picture book, Belinda Begins Ballet.

In addition, two local ballerinas will be giving a tutu-torial, including the five feet and arm positions, and some basic ballet-speak.  (And we thought that the Fancy Nancy party was the end of rooms full of pink...)

All children must be accompanied by an adult, and reservations are required, so sign up today, and click here for more details about the event, as well as a list of all of the Belinda books.

American Spoon Cafe's New Menu Features Plenty of Locally-Produced Fare

We're thrilled to see that American Spoon Cafe has opened their doors for the season, because who hasn't been craving gelato of late?

Take a moment, wander in, and appreciate the fresh interior makeover and tempting menu additions . . . a breakfast scramble with "sweet potato polenta and turkey cherry sausage" . . . need we say more?  (But don't fret, the tomato bisque still remains!)

The Two Late Summer Releases About Which We're Disgustingly Excited!
DragonEye.jpg
Magic, madam, is like wine and, if you are not used to it, it will make you drunk.
-Susanna Clarke

These two series have captured the hearts, minds and imaginations of so many McLean & Eakin customers and staff.  They've taken our breath away, brought tears to our eyes, raised the hairs on the backs of our necks, heightened our senses of adventure, and even stolen many precious hours of sleep.  They are tales of old magic, forbidden love, astonishing heroism and evil dopplegangers.  But these are also stories which perhaps show us qualities we would like to possess.  They provide a means of viewing our lives and our world through a fantastical lens.  They are, in fact, everything great stories ought to be.

If you've not yet been introduced to Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle or Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga, do not fear, for you have a good few months to catch up.  But if you, like us, are already counting the days until the next books are released, then follow the links to preorder your copies today.

And be sure to check back as summer approaches, for we'll be posting polls, trivia, other books to keep you occupied, and very important information about midnight Vampire Masquerade Balls and Dragon Appreciation Parties!
